Built to run complex workloads using its highly scalable memory, I/O capacity and flexible network options. Designed to excel at running a wide range of virtualisation environments and applications for both mid-size and large enterprises, the 2U rack server is powered by quad Intel Xeon E5-4600 series processors and can readily handle very demanding, mission critical workloads like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), data warehousing, e-commerce, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), databases and data node High Performance Computing (HPC.) Quad-CPU performance This PowerEdge R820 server features sockets for four 6-core Intel Xeon E5-4617 processors running at 2.90GHz, offering a powerful 11.6GHz combined processing power. The E5 series of processors were designed for architecting next-generation data centres and delivering versatility across diverse workloads, making them ideal for data-heavy use.

The server also comes with 64GB DDR3 memory, with the opportunity to upgrade to a maximum capacity of 1.5TB across 48 DIMM slots, and supports up to eight 2.5 inch (SFF) SAS, SATA or SSD drives totalling 16TB storage. Control and flexibility The server comes fitted with a standard integrated network controller, but other dual and quad port NICs are available from Broadcom or Intel up to 2GbE. The PowerEdge H710 RAID Controller (PERC) offers unrivalled I/O performance for database applications, achieving significant performance gains in hard-drive based server environments and taking full advantage of the unsurpassed performance and enterprise-class reliability of SSDs.

Other connectivity is provided by seven PCI-E slots and two Intel QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) links, whilst optional hot-plug, front-access PCI-E SSDs (max. 4) enable performance enhancing in-box storage tiering. The PowerEdge R820 is powered by twin Platinum efficiency 750W PSUs, offering a great combination of power and energy saving.
