When she learns of a travelling dance troupe auditioning chorus girls in a nearby town, Pearl seizes the opportunity to escape her abusive mother (Tandi Wright) and disabled father (Matthew Sunderland), and is encouraged to pursue her dream by a young movie theatre projectionist (David Corenswet).
