Often described as Hong Kong's answer to classics like Deliverance , The Texas Chain Saw Massacre , The Hills Have Eyes , and Motel Hell , the film transports visceral 1970s and 1980s survival horror tropes to a remote island setting in East Asia.

The plot follows Mr. Cheung (John Sham), a teacher who takes a small group of students on a summer excursion to explore a seemingly uninhabited rural island. Upon arrival, they discover the island is home to three deranged brothers and their equally disturbed mother.

When one student refuses a marriage proposal from the youngest and most disturbed brother, the group soon finds themselves fighting for survival. The film explores pointed class conflict by contrasting educated urbanites against violent members of an isolated rural community, while maintaining the unique cultural and supernatural elements characteristic of Hong Kong horror cinema. Bonus materials feature two new audio commentaries by East Asian cinema expert Frank Djeng and genre specialists Mike Leeder and Arne Venema, an interview with director Po-Chih Leong from 2023, a collector's booklet with new interviews and notes, a limited edition O-card slipcase with artwork by Ilan Sheady, and the original theatrical trailer.
